What are EDP’s news in terms of electric mobility?
What we are sharing here, at Portugal Mobi Summit, is the ambition of having 300 public charging stations by the end of 2020, for both public need, outside of homes, plus 750 private charging stations at home or in our client’s garages. As part of this public charging stations network there is an ecosystem of partnerships. One of the most important and critical issues for the success of mobility will precisely be our capacity of building these ecosystems of partnerships, so as to be able to accompany the rhythm at which innovation is going. We already have a partnership with BP for some time. At the beginning of next year we will be launching a card for fleets that will include a BP electric charging plan . Regarding Benfica – I cannot hide my personal excitement – we closed a partnership to have 20 charging stations between the Luz Stadium (18 distributed throughout the different parking lots) and the Training Center in Seixal (two of them). An important news is that we announced the first ultra-fast charging station that of course had to be right next to Eusébio.
What is the importance of this partnership with Benfica?
It’s yet another important and mediatic entity, that is making a step towards electric mobility. It’s a football club that has been taking important steps towards sustainability in their spaces. We recently installed 1.200 solar panels in Seixal. After this important step taken towards the support of photovoltaic energy, Benfica is now giving yet another step towards electric mobility, thus supporting all of those who go to the stadium, be that for assisting a game or to shop in the commercial area.
Is the bet on fleets also important for companies that are increasingly using electric vehicles?
Many companies assumed at the same time as EDP the commitment to changing all of their fleet into electric vehicles. After assuming that commitment, they needed to find the right solutions, because a company fleet requires a management of that very fleet also in terms of consumption and charging. Therefore, the same way we now have fleet cards from gas stations, that are very successful, that card can be also extended to the electric dimension. That is what the partnership between EDP and BP will be doing next year.
